The Most Popular Feature Wall Trends, According to Instagram

After a recent investigation run by Dulux Simply Refresh, it has revealed the top trending feature wall fashions. The company analysed the top hashtags #FeatureWall, #AccentWall, #FeatureWallIdeas, and #AccentWallIdeas on Instagram. The team then identified and compared the top trends in these images to define the current top trends for feature walls. 

Dulux found that there are over 600,000 images posted on Instagram featuring these top trending hashtags, and the phrase "feature wall ideas" receives over 8,000 searches on Google each month, in the United Kingdom alone. 

The investigation revealed the most popular feature wall trend is to add texture with a paneled wall, with nearly two thirds of the top posts displaying paneled design. The paneling texture trend adds certain charm to a room, and helps create both a traditional and country style. However, one well loved feature about adding texture is that it allows for defects and uneven surfaces to be concealed. 

Runner up to the trend number one, is geometric patterns. Almost half of the highest ranked posts featured geometric patterns. Geometric patterns range from minimalistic designs, to bold punchy patterns that often fill an entire wall. The highest trending colour featured in interior inspiration photos was grey. The colour grey is thought of as being a diplomatic colour, negotiating the distance between black and white - it is considered elegant, conservative and cool. White also featured prominently, often complimenting the popular grey, pastels or bold punchy colours.
