Pantone Colour of the Year 2021

Pantone chose Classic Blue for the colour of the year in 2020. Classic Blue anticipates what's going to happen next - how were the effects of a global pandemic going to play out? It was a similar tone to the Colour of the Year 1999, with the anticipation of the year 2000 - was the world going to blow up? Classic Blue encapsulated the feelings of insecurity and uncertainness summing up the emotions of many people around the world who had been effected by the global pandemic.

This year they sought to bring us colours that help provide support. For the year 2021, Pantone brought us a combined symbol of strength and positivity with not only one colour of the year but two. Pantone Ultimate Gray 17-5104 + Pantone Illuminating 13-0647 were chosen to express a story of colour that encases immeasurable emotions of attentiveness with an assurance of sunlight and friendship to come. It also expresses a note of happiness reinforced by resilience, creating strong feelings of hope and ambition. It represents a stronger and brighter future where the world will begin to heal from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Individually, Ultimate Gray represents an atmosphere of optimism, while Illuminating creates feelings of warmth. These two colours are both beautiful separately but when combined they sing a song of ultimate illumination, creating strong emotional strength.

With Dulux's recent study into top trending feature wall fashions, it was revealed that grey is the #numberone trending colour in all things interior design. It is often used as a base colour to negotiate the distance between black and white, however it is often used to compliment pastel and bold punchy colours.

What will Pantone bring us for 2022, with the world learning to live the ups and downs of a global pandemic, I'm hoping for a fresh PANTONE  570C. PANTONE  570C signifies regrowth, tranquility, good luck and improved health. It is also associated with freshness and creativity - doesn't that sound exactly like something we all need?
